15th InfoGuard Security Lounge: Cyber security and AI at the cutting edge

Written by Estelle Ouhassi | 07 Jul 2025

As a vibrant meeting place for the cyber security community, the hybrid event offered practical insights and inspiring solutions for forward-looking protection strategies against modern digital attack tactics. With gripping keynotes and inspiring presentations, the event focused on the risks of today and the solutions of tomorrow. Did you miss the InfoGuard Security Lounge? In this article you will find an overview of the most important information.

Among the absolute highlights of this year's agenda were the keynotes by Pascal Lamia, Deputy Director of the Federal Office for Cybersecurity (BACS), and Prof. Dr. Marc Pouly, expert in AI and machine learning. The program was complemented by exciting presentations from the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), Cyber Defence Center (CDC) and Penetration Testing Team (Pentesting). Specialist presentations by presenting partners Extreme Networks, Silverfort and Microsoft, who presented the latest developments and solutions for the cyber security of tomorrow, rounded off the hybrid event.

Cybersecurity - attacks remain at a high level

Pascal Lamia, Deputy Director of the Federal Office for Cybersecurity (BACS), opened the series of presentations at this year's InfoGuard Security Lounge with a concise assessment of the current situation and painted a razor-sharp picture of the current threat situation. Lamia showed that cyber attacks on organizations in Switzerland - from phishing and ransomware to DDoS attacks - remain at a high level and are still all too often due to insufficient cyber resilience. An effective security strategy for companies and authorities is inextricably linked to continuous prevention and clearly regulated communication channels. Lamia pointed out that this allows risks to be identified at an early stage and incidents to be dealt with efficiently. Risk management should also be anchored at the highest level. His credo in this regard: Management belongs on the bridge in order to steer quickly and effectively in the event of an emergency. Watch Lamia's presentation again in the recording - it's worth it!

Behind Enemy's Lines: Tactics and techniques of attackers

Mathias Fuchs, Head of Investigations & Intelligence at InfoGuard, opened the door to the "invisible world of cybercrime" with his presentation "Behind Enemy Lines". He drew a multi-layered picture of the personality profiles of cyber criminals and used anonymized case studies to ruthlessly reveal the division of labor and efficiency with which cyber criminals provide their attack services in forums. Professionalization and automation make targeted attacks a constant threat to companies and critical infrastructures. His appeal: effective protective measures can only be developed with an understanding of the attackers' tactics and techniques.

Ernesto Hartmann, Chief Cyber Defense Officer at InfoGuard, made it impressively clear: "In the age of professional and fast-acting attackers, traditional protection mechanisms are no longer enough. Only the combination of XDR technologies, 24/7 eyes-on-screen, a staffed SOC and continuous innovation can create cyber resilience, Hartmann recommended. Research, a powerful RedTeam and an interlinked incident response team form the backbone of any modern defense.

David Fridrih, Senior Penetration Tester at InfoGuard, and Dario Weiss, Penetration Tester also at InfoGuard, showed how they were able to detect significant security vulnerabilities using external tests with just two IPs and domains, but without access data. They discovered critical vulnerabilities using static code analysis, man-in-the-middle proxies and targeted SQL injections. Their conclusion: even small attack surfaces harbor risks, as attackers are increasingly using more creative methods - often only discovered by means of a thorough pentest.

360° cyber security from the DACH region with over 350 experts

Freshly invigorated and enriched by numerous personal discussions, the audience followed the InfoGuard update and panel discussion with Thomas Meier, CEO of InfoGuard, Daniel Heinzig, Managing Director of InfoGuard Com-Sys GmbH, and Stefan Thomann, Chief Sales Officer of InfoGuard, in conversation with Miriam Rickli after the break.

Meier explained that the merger with Com-Sys was a strategic move to join forces in the DACH region and offer customers more comprehensive cybersecurity.

Meier emphasized that the combination of technical depth and the complementary portfolio of Com-Sys was particularly decisive for the partnership. For customers, the merger means real added value: bundled expertise and comprehensive 24/7 support.

Heinzig agreed with this statement: The integration of Com-Sys would open up new market opportunities for both partners and both would benefit equally. The next milestones will be the expansion of joint services and the development of innovative security solutions.

Thomann emphasized that the synergies through combined sales channels and portfolios would create a clear advantage for customers. The discussion also made it clear that the cyber security challenges of tomorrow can only be successfully mastered through cooperation, innovative strength and combined expertise.

AI & machine learning - opportunities & trends for everyday (security) life

Prof. Dr. Marc Pouly, one of the leading experts in artificial intelligence and applied algorithms, brought the event to an inspiring close.

Pouly provided fascinating insights into how attackers open up new avenues of attack through targeted prompt injection or sophisticated phishing. He also emphasized that companies should actively use modern language models and AI-supported attack detection in order to remain resilient.

His conclusion: sustainable digital security requires the courage not only to integrate AI, but also to develop it critically and responsibly. His presentation rounded off the anniversary edition of the Security Lounge in a way that was both fitting and inspiring and will certainly provide the industry with interesting new food for thought far beyond the event. You can find the details of his exciting presentation in the recording.

Technology trends - the latest developments from our presenting partners

The three speakers from our presenting partners also revealed the extent to which innovations are shaping cyber security.

Markus Nispel, Head of AI Engineering at Extreme Networks, gave a fascinating insight into the fundamental transformation of network security through artificial intelligence. His experience report proved that transparency and automation are redefining modern IT security.

Michael Lindner, Regional Sales Manager (DACH) at Silverfort, demonstrated impressively and practically that no compromises can be made when it comes to identity security. He emphasized that privileged accounts are reliably protected with agentless zero trust solutions - across platforms and devices.

Daniel von Büren, Swiss Security Officer, and Reto Aeberhardt, Head of Security Sales at Microsoft, emphasized that AI enables a paradigm shift in cyber defence: Real-time transparency, faster response and automated workflows significantly strengthen defenders. At the same time, cybercriminals are also using AI with increasing sophistication - the threat situation is changing rapidly and rapid action is essential.

Conclusion & outlook: Intelligently bundling cyber resilience and looking forward to 2026!

At the end of the anniversary edition of the 15th InfoGuard Security Lounge, CEO Thomas Meier drew an all-round positive balance: "The continued high level of interest and the varied, practical discussions confirm every year anew that our Security Lounge is very popular as a platform for exchange and knowledge transfer in the cyber security community. My heartfelt thanks go to all the guests, partners, speakers and the entire InfoGuard team who made this day possible."

As is tradition, the event came to a successful conclusion with a joint flying dinner and lively networking. The anticipation of the 16th InfoGuard Security Lounge in June 2026 is already palpable. Let the cyber security vibes sink in: Watch the short video now!
